Who is doing the real work in this country?

So last week Hillary Rosen, who apparently has made a name for herself as a strategist for the DNC made the comment that Anne Romney (wife of Republican front runner Mit Romney) "has never worked a day in her life".  In one statement Rosen has completely thrown out the contributions of every Mother in the country and if you think that this wasnt part of a calculated strategy that came straight from the Obama Administration, I reccomend you take a second look.  My mother worked most of the time I was growing up, that is to say she worked two jobs, she was a full time mom with two sons and she also worked for a living.  Anne Romney raised five boys and by all accounts raised them well.  What does Bill Mahr say on his HBO show  last week?  He took it upon himself to clarify Rosen's comments and take them a little further "what Rosen meant to say was that Romney never got her ass out of the house a day in her life"  Once again Liberals in general and Mahr in particular show they just dont have an understanding of what makes real American families tick.  To hurl insults at the wife of a candidate on the basis that she was able to stay home and raise a family further illustrates how far out of touch they really are.  So lets all do this, in the next few days, say "thank you" to our moms or the women who raised us and I know, that there are some of us whose mom's arent around any more, lets do something even more politicaly incorrect for them, close your eyes, say a little prayer to the Heavens and thank God for Moms and all that they do.

Obama warns the supreme court?

From Fox News, the President used his strongest language yet today, warning the supreme court not to over turn Obama Care and that it would be unprecedented for the court to over turn a law passed by Congress.  First of all that is in fact the function of the Supreme Court, to make sure that laws passed are in line with the U.S. Constitution, second of all who does this President think he is?  What gives him the right as head of the Executive Branch to threaten the Judicial Branch?  This is just another in a long line of examples of a far left radical President who clearly lacks an understanding of the separation of powers.  Heres to hoping that the supremes will put Obama  Care where it belongs in the dust bin of history and that they send a clear message to this President about the contitionaly imposed limits on his power

Man of God or man of politics?

I have never pretended to be an especialy religious person, that doesnt mean that I dont worship in my own way or that I dont have faith, just I am not as obvious about it as some people.  This week people around the country reacted with disgust at the death in Florida of a young man who at least according to initial accounts just happened to be walking down the street in the wrong neighborhood.  The early reports tried to portray his killer as an evil racist and the young man as an innocent victim, as time passes we learn that perhaps things werent quite that black and white.  As it turns out the victim, named Trayvon was no angel, he has a fairly extensive criminal record, thats not saying he deserved to get shot, but he's not the boy scout that he was made out to be at first.  The police havent yet made an arrest in the case because so far the facts have pointed to it being a case of self defense, I'm not going to argue the merrits as to weather the shooter should be arrested or not.  Not long after the story became national news, who should show up and start exploiting this tragedy for his own benefit?  You guessed it...the Reverand Al Sharpton.  I have never really understood Sharpton, he tries to present himself as a man of God and I was taught to believe that God loves all of his children.  Yet Reverand Al only shows up when something bad happens to an African American person and then only when its something that he can use to get his own name in the papers.  Tragedy happens to people of caucasian people too, sometimes African Americans kill white people, where is the Reverand then?  A true man of God cares for all people regardless of race, creed or color not just the ones who can further his political agenda.

The Olympia Games Part one

I’ve always been a big fan of the Olympic Games, both the summer and the winter versions. Every four years I would be the first one camped in front of the TV to watch the gymnastics and high diving or bobsledding and skating, depending on the season.
A few weeks ago, our longtime U.S. Senator from Maine Olympia Snowe made a surprise announcement that she had decided to retire from the Senate and not run for reelection next year. You’ll note that Snowe announced that she was done with the Senate, not done with politics, but we’ll talk more about that in a minute.
In any case this was big news for our little state. You can say what you like about Snowe, and over the years I’ve said plenty, but there is no denying the impact that she has had on the political climate both in Washington and here at home.
My biggest issue with the Senator has always been that she seemed to be firmly stuck in the middle on any issue you could think of. You simply can’t please all of the people all of the time, but that never stopped her from trying. Maybe this obsession with being all things to all people is what led Olympia to the cast the deciding vote that eventually led to the unmitigated disaster we now call ObamaCare. It certainly contributed to her well-deserved reputation as being a R.I.N.O. (Republican In Name Only). Snowe’s decision not to seek reelection set off what I like to call the “Olympia Games” as Maine political figures, particularly the Democrats immediately began to jump over hurdles and tie themselves into knots that would put any gymnast to shame, all for the possibility of taking over Snowe’s Senate seat.
The first thing to come out of the rumor mill was that Congresswoman Chellie “The Princess” Pingree was going to make a run. She had the name recognition and certainly had the financial backing, being married to financier Donald Sussman. B the way, isn’t it funny how liberals are all about redistribution of wealth as long as no one touches theirs? Just a thought.
Next we heard that former Governor John Baldacci was not only considering a run but had already started gathering the needed signatures to get on the ballot. Former Secretary of State Matt Dunlap had already been planning on running before the Snowe announcement and he at least is still in, unlike some others.
Then came the next surprise: former Maine Independent Governor Angus King landed in the race like Bill Clinton landing at a Playboy bunny convention; that is to say, he turned everything upside down. No sooner did he make his decision known, Princess Pingree decided that maybe being in the U.S. Senate didn’t sound so good after all, saying that she had come to the conclusion that she needed to focus her attention on the First Congressional District.
Oh come on, Chellie; even you can do better than that. We all know that you dropped out because another candidate came along who has at least as much money as you do and who has more popularity and name recognition. In short, you rightly figured out that Angus King was going beat you like the proverbial red-headed step child and that discretion is indeed the better part of valor.
This is all OK, but like Judge Judy says, “Don’t pee on my leg and tell me that it’s raining.” We know all why you dropped out of the race, so let’s not try and pass it off as doing the right thing for your district.

A Little right of center

A Little Right of Center: Hey! Barack, keep your hands off my Twinkies! PDFPrintE-mail

brodeur I hate to say “I told you so.” Well, actually who am I kidding? Let’s be honest. I really have no problem at all saying I told you so. I warned you that this was coming. In fact, I’ve been predicting this for months and now it’s happened.
As we all know one of the hallmarks of the true far left liberal weenie is an unshakable belief in your superiority. Liberals believe that they are so far above the average person intellectually that it is their duty to take care of those whom they consider to be less gifted; that would people like you and me.
Recently we saw the case in North Carolina where the mom dutifully packed a lunch for her preschooler, said lunch consisted of a turkey sandwich, a banana, chips and apple juice. Before lunch, the school was visited by an official from the U.S.DA. (United States Department of Agriculture) whose job, and I am not kidding here, is to inspect all of the lunches served at the school including those brought from home to make sure that they meet government standards. Now I ask you: when did things in this country go off the rails to the point that our taxpayer dollars are now being used to pay for inspectors in the schools whose job is to monitor what our kids are having for lunch?
In this case the inspector looked at the little girl’s lunch and decided that it didn’t pass nutritional muster and opted to replace part of the home packed meal – not with fresh vegetables or fresh fruit as you might expect – but with chicken nuggets. You know: those little bits of processed chicken parts that are breaded and then fried; they go really well with some sweet and sour sauce and side order of fries.
Now don’t get me wrong here, I have nothing whatsoever against chicken nuggets. In fact, you could even go so far as to say that I am a fan. But chicken nuggets and nutrition go together about as well as Barack Obama and socialism; um, let me rephrase that: chicken nuggets and nutrition go together about as well as Barack Obama and fiscal responsibility (that works better).
To my mind, the issue here is less about what they replaced her lunch with and more about the fact that a federal official felt that they had the right to supersede the choices made by a parent for her child. This school district should consider themselves fortunate that I am not a parent of a child enrolled there because I would go out of my way to challenge this policy every day of the week.
I would send my kid to school with bacon double cheese burgers and Oreos for desert and I would dare any school official or U.S.D.A. inspector to tell me that I couldn’t do it. This is really all about an overgrown bloated federal bureaucracy that wants to tell you how they think you should live your life. They went after the smokers first and now they want to regulate what we eat and drink, and they will try to justify it using Obama care.
If you let the government pay for your health insurance, then you give them a voice in the daily decisions that you make in your life. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big guy. I like to eat. I will be the first to admit that sometimes I probably don’t make the best dietary choices, I’ll own it. At the end of the day, though, I am a grown up, those decisions are mine to make and mine to ultimately take responsibility for.
To put it in the simplest terms: Hey Barack, keep your hands off my Twinkies!

A few thoughts on the murders in Tucson

What happened in Tucson on Saturday was a senseless tragedy, cliched I know, but that doesnt make it any less true.  I wasnt paying much attention to what was happening, in fact I didnt turn the tv on until later saturday afternoon, as fate would have it the first thing I happened to see was Rachel maddow on MSNBC, suggesting that the shootings were carried out by some crazy consvative with tea party links.  Silly me I just assumed that she had facts to back up her assertions, as it turns out Jared Laughner has no conservative ties at all in fact if anything the opposite is true, he's been described as a left wing pot head, who by the way has what appears to be a satantic altar in his back yard.  In my not so humble opinion to use these shootings for any kind of polital gain is beyond despicable, and yet that appears to be the first thing that the liberal left tried to do, failing in their attempt to tie this maniac to any kind of conservative group now they will try to push gun controll and the fairness doctrine.  Political rhetoric is not to blame for what happened, the actions of a truly crazy person cant be explained or understood or anticipated.  We must not allow these events to used as an excuse to limit or impinge on our freedoms.
